Workpower was first established as a not-for-profit organisation in 1992. Since that time, Workpower Incorporated has assisted thousands of people with disability in employment.
Workpower was originally part of the WA State Government’s Authority for Intellectually Handicapped Persons (AIHP), which later became known as the Disability Services Commission (DSC). At that time, Workpower provided day activities for people with moderate to profound intellectual disability.
As a result of restructuring and a move by the government to outsource these sorts of programs to the non-government sector, Workpower Incorporated was formed and officially commenced operations in July 1992. In the first year of business, Workpower Incorporated was funded by the AIHP with the responsibility being transferred to the Commonwealth Government in July 1993, under the Commonwealth/State Disability Agreement.
In 2001, Workpower’s constitution was amended to recognise the wider nature of employment services that Workpower provided. Since then Workpower has expanded its employment services to offer employment assistance for a broader range of people in the community. Our highly qualified staff are trained and experienced in supporting people with intellectual disability, physical disability, vision or other sensory impairment and people with mental illness.
In 2004, Workpower Incorporated became a Quality Accredited organisation. Achieving quality assurance certification means that Workpower is recognised as providing a service that meets the individual needs of people with disability.
