Emilio’s Green Thumb Gets the Job!

Emilio is a passionate gardener who has gained considerable experience volunteering as a gardening assistant at a school and helping out at his local community garden. Despite having the hands-on skills required for a gardening job, communication challenges made it difficult for him to secure a role on larger projects.

Emilio began working with Workpower Support Coach Wilson and Manager of Employment Supports John to help him find his dream job. From his first day, dressed in high-vis workwear and sturdy boots, Emilio's career aspirations were clear; he was ready and hopeful for a chance to work in the gardens.

Thanks to a helpful tip from our Building Maintenance team, Emilio was introduced to Amanda Booth at InterGrain, and an opportunity for him to start in his dream job emerged.

Despite the distance from his home, the opportunity was too good for Emilio to pass up. He arrived at the first meeting dressed for the job—boots, gloves, and all. His enthusiasm was so evident that after some brief paperwork, the InterGrain team hired him on the spot.

Emilio now works one day a week, clearing old growth and tidying seedling trays around the site. He was beaming as he walked the grounds of his new workplace, thrilled to be earning his own income doing what he loves most.

Emilio’s journey is a brilliant reminder of what is possible with perseverance, passion, and the right support.
