City of Stirling grant supports Workpower sports program throughout the year

A grant from the City of Stirling has helped Workpower purchase much-needed shelter for its growing Sports program, supporting activities and events throughout the year.

As the program expanded, Workpower needed reliable shelter from the summer sun and winter rain. The grant enabled Workpower to purchase branded gazebos that are now regularly used at sports activities, skills development sessions and community events.

The gazebos have provided a practical base for Workpower customers and staff at several sporting events, including the first all-ability touch football game played at a State Championships in Western Australia.

More than 200 people watched Workpower customers take part in the game, giving participants an opportunity to practise communication and social skills, build independence and connect with the wider sporting community.

The gazebos have also been used at Workpower’s all-ability Sports Gala Days at Richard Delawney Reserve, located within the City of Stirling.

These events have brought together sporting organisations including Rugby WA, Rowing WA, Touch Football WA, Futures Football Foundation, Tennis West and Cricket WA to showcase their all-ability sport programs and give Workpower customers the opportunity to try different activities.

For Workpower customers, sport provides opportunities to improve health and wellbeing, build skills and connect with others in the community.

The gazebos continue to be well used across Workpower’s Sports program, providing practical shelter for customers and staff across different seasons and activities.
